This Cookie Policy explains which cookies and similar storage technologies are used on laplace-intelligence.com, what they are for, how long they last, and how you can change your choice at any time. It complements the Privacy Policy.

What a cookie is

A cookie is a small text file a website stores on your device. This site also uses browser session storage (sessionStorage), which works the same way for this purpose and is subject to the same rules.

We only store or read information on your device without asking where it is strictly necessary to deliver the site you asked for. Everything else depends on your prior consent, which you are free to give and equally free to withdraw.

Strictly necessary cookies

These cannot be switched off and do not require consent. The site does not work without them.

• A record of your cookie choice. Stores the decision you made in this window, a random identifier, and the version of this policy you agreed to, so we do not ask you again on every visit. First-party cookie. Retention: 6 months.
• Administration area session. Keeps a member of the Laplace team signed in while they work on the site's content. Never used on a visit to the public site. First-party cookie. Retention: the browser session, or until sign-out.
• Administration area language preference. Remembers the language the Laplace team prefers to work in. Never used on a visit to the public site. First-party cookie. Retention: 1 year.

Analytics

Requires your consent. If you do not give it, nothing in this category is written to or read from your device.

• Article read count. A temporary note in your browser that stops the same person being counted twice on the same article. First party, kept only for the session. Cleared when you close the tab.

The resulting count is aggregate: a number of visits per article per day. We do not store your IP address, your browser, or any identifier that would let us recognise you.

This site does not currently use Google Analytics or any other third-party analytics tool. If that changes, this policy will be updated and your consent will be sought again before any collection begins.

Media and embedded content

Requires your consent. Podcast episodes are hosted on YouTube and Spotify. Until you allow it we show only a placeholder, and no request is made to those providers, not even to load a thumbnail.

• YouTube (google.com, youtube-nocookie.com), third party. Episode playback. We use the youtube-nocookie.com domain, which reduces collection but does not remove it.
• Spotify (spotify.com), third party. Episode playback.

Once a player has loaded, the cookies those providers set are governed by their privacy policies, not ours.

How to change or withdraw your choice

On any page, in the footer, choose “Cookie settings”. You can accept all, reject all, or decide category by category. Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it and does not restrict access to any part of the site.

You can also delete this site's cookies through your browser settings. Your choice is then forgotten and we will ask again.

Changes to this policy

Every decision we record stores the policy version in force at the time. If this policy changes materially (a new category, a new third party, a new purpose). That version is incremented, earlier choices stop applying, and your consent is sought again.
